Funding the Future: How EU Budget (MFF) Can Accelerate Green & Digital Trade Competiveness
Our feedback on the European Commission’s public consultation on the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) presents a strategic vision to harness EU budgetary resources for accelerating green and digital trade competitiveness. Developed by the DigitalTrade4.EU consortium, this document proposes a comprehensive blueprint built on three pillars: international cooperation (e.g., DEPA, UNCITRAL MLETR), legislative alignment (e.g., eIDAS 2.0, CSRD, FiDA), and implementation through secure digital infrastructure—particularly Digital Product Passports (DPPs). By linking sustainability data to green finance mechanisms like CBAM rebates and EIB loans, the proposal aims to embed Ecological, Societal, and Economic (ESE) sustainability into global trade, turning compliance into a driver of innovation, resilience, and inclusive growth.
